Shilpi Dabral is a contemporary visual artist based in Bangalore, India, known for her textured geometric abstractions that explore symbolism, spirituality, and human connection. Her artistic journey evolved significantly during her years in Dubai, where the city’s vibrant multicultural art scene rekindled her creative practice and shaped her distinctive visual language. Artist Statement
My artistic journey began in childhood as a simple and joyful form of self-expression. Over time, this instinctive connection with art evolved into a deeper visual language shaped by my experiences, travels, and inner reflections. Living in Dubai played a significant role in this transformation, exposing me to a vibrant multicultural environment that encouraged experimentation and ultimately guided me toward geometric abstraction.
My work centers on textured geometric compositions built through layers of acrylic, pattern, and symbolic form. Geometry, for me, represents both structure and metaphor. Individual shapes and fragments come together to create a unified composition, reflecting the interconnectedness of life and the quiet harmony that can exist within diversity.
Nature, spirituality, and the feminine essence of creation often inform my visual narratives. Many of my works explore the enduring relationship between humanity and Mother Earth, expressing themes of care, resilience, and unconditional giving. Through symbolic elements, rhythmic patterns, and tactile surfaces, my paintings attempt to capture the unseen energies that bind life together.
Texture plays a vital role in my practice. By building layered surfaces, I create depth that reflects time, experience, and emotional memory. These textured spaces invite the viewer to slow down and engage with the work both visually and intuitively.
Through my evolving body of work, I seek to create contemplative spaces where structure meets emotion and symbolism meets abstraction. Each canvas becomes an invitation to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the deeper rhythms of nature, humanity, and the shared experiences that unite us all.
